SMTP mail - User not found in Name and Address Book

I have just upgraded our server from R5.0.12 to ND6.5 and now I have 1 user (yes only 1, but he is a relative of the owner) that can no longer get internet email.When his address is in the format firstname.lastname@domain.com the internet mail gets rejected stating “User not found in name and Address book”, but if I change it to shortname@domain.com the mail comes through without a problem.

I have tried eveything I know to resolve this but cannot, any help would be appreciated.

Ok, here’s a strange new finding. On incoming emails (from the internet) his address is getting stripped down to firstname@domain.com. His last name and the domain name are the same, (ex. john.smith@smith.com). Could notes be stripping the last name thinking it is a duplicate?
