SMTP Mail being returned to user with 451 error

We have a slight problem with our SMTP mail. The destination host drops occasionally for a few seconds several times a day. If this co-incides with someone sending mail they get a 451 message returned to them with the option to re-send - which does work. What I would like to do is extend the timeout period so that it retries automatically.

I’ve seen postings suggesting changing SMTPTimeoutMultiplier to a large number (I’ve chosen 100), can anyone tell me if this will cause any other problems or indeed - will it work?

Thanks

Howard

modify the DNS timeout for Domino when resolving the sender’s domain in DNS, set the Notes.ini variable equal to the number of seconds you wish the timeout to be (e.g., SMTPVerifySendersDomainTimeout=10).

Thanks for the reply - I’ll set it to 180 and see what happens…
