Smart upgrade kit 6.5.5 to 7.0.2?

Hi notes friends,I have to upgrade 200 local notes clients from 655 to 702.

Is there any smart upgrade kit to upgrade from 6.5.5 to 7.0.2 & where to download?

Or do I have to use the 7.0.2 client installation program. If so what is the procedure to create a silent install with the C94QIEN.exe package?

Thanks a lot for any help!

Vanessa

To answer your specific question, yes, you will have to use the “web kit” to upgrade from 6.5.x to 7.0.x.

Since both releases are in different code streams, there is no “upgrade kit” from 6.5.x to 7.0.x … hence, the “web kit” installer code requirement.

The “web kit” is the same installer code found on the published IBM Lotus Notes Domino CD-ROM platter. The file name you referenced is just the compressed version. If you unzip it, then it will expand to about a dozen files, one of which is the infamous setup.exe.

A thorough and complete Smart Upgrade effort contains multiple configurations.

  • silent install package configuration

  • smart upgrade configuration

  • domino policy [optional]

You need to mentally separate the silent install configuration from the Smart Upgrade configuration. They are separate work efforts.

Configuring a successful windows installer silent install, with or without a custom MST, is easy, straightforward and well documented. Write and validate your silent install first. Validate again and again.

I would suggest you take into consideration user permissions. Can your average user install applications on their own? … or, do you have to provide for that via elevated permissions functionality in the SURunAs.exe utility, just included in the Notes Domino 7.0.2 public release.

Once you have a confirmed, working silent install package, then configuring Smart Upgrade to “call” the silent install package is the easy part.

Use of a Domino policy as part of a Smart Upgrade effort is optional, not mandatory.

Also, don’t overlook “Seamless” upgrade functionality as an integral part of your planned Smart Upgrade effort. It’ll save you from having to backtrack [time & effort] and design upgrade the user mail databases.

Additionally, there is also a Smart Upgrade redpaper available;
