Why does R8 take so long to start up? I am experiencing a good 3 minutes before everything got loaded. This is creating a negative user experience in our org. after upgrade. Is there anything we can do(other than switching to basic) to reduce this load time? Maybe doing some .ini clean-up?Thanks!
Subject: Speeding up ND8
It’s been said in many places and I’ve tested it myself. Turning off your anti-virus speeds things up considerably.
The Eclipse version of ND8 seems to read a lot more files than the standard client. Each file is individually scanned on load.
Instead of on-load scanning, either set your PC virus scanner to do a scheduled scan outside of business hours - and make sure that you’ve got a tough firewall (both hardware and software). I’d suggest also that you have anti-virus on your hardware firewall.
Alternatively, consider excluding the Notes directory from scanning.
Subject: Anti-virus is corp. wide
Hi, thanks for your response. It definitely explained the prolonged start-up. The problem for us is that Anti-virus is deployed corp. wide and setting is controlled by policy. Individual users cannot modify them. It is unlikely corp. security team will make exceptions for us since most people use Lotus for emails and not so high priority work-flow apps.
But even before our company implemented corp. wide anti-virus program, R8 took measurably longer than R7 to start. The difference is so noticeable(and the memo usage) that many users in our company opt to use basic mode after general deployment.
