Subject: Shared mail yes or no?
I used it on R5 in my last company, it was the worst experience I have ever had with Domino. It looked good on paper, but it was not all that great. Not sure how it works in ND6. We ended up going back and unlinking all the messages and turning it off, and just buying some more disk space.
Subject: No, never
I imagine there is someplace where it works, but I never worked there.
Shared mail is the same concept as cc:mail or Exchange - a single-object store of messages, which is an invitation to data corruption and a single point of failure.
Create limits on the sizes of attachments, limit user’s mailfiles, educate them on removing the attachments from responses, create local archives for them or simply buy more disk space.
I would never use Shared Mail unless it was already there or management insisted upon it. If I couldn’t get it changed, I’d look for other work because I hate the idea of the late nights and weekends that mught be involved in recovering from a disaster that is more likely in a single object store.
But that’s me.

Subject: NO!
Just a little scenario. The average mailfile of your 3000 users is 50 MB (which is very low). One of your users “lost” read: deleted accidentally some messages today and asks you to restore his mailfile.
You’ll have to restore the whole single object store of 150 GB to be able to restore this particular mailfile. Shudder!
