I want to set up domino server on my laptop, but haven’t got the faintest clue as to where to start. Does anyone know if there is a userfreindly guide written in english showing step by step how to do this?
All I want to do is add myself as a user so I can start playing with xpages design, and be able to preview it on a browser.
Subject: Equally important is to ensure the configuration is supported…
Last I knew client & server on the same machine was not supported. If you’re doing a demo that’s not an issue. If you’re writing an application and need to open a PMR it’s drop-dead critical. I’ve heard client & server (finally) work under R8.5.2 (again), but I haven’t heard it’s a supported configuration.
Lotus’ web site says the server is supported using “VMWare ESX on windows”. That implies if you put VMWare ESX 4 (currently a free download) onto your laptop, then '03 SR2 or '08 into that, then load R8.5.2 server onto that, you will in fact be supported with a client and a server on the same machine.
So far I’ve gotten no explicit indication from Lotus on that matter. Lotus, this is another chance to clear the waters with an explicit, straight answer.
All I want to do is start building an XPages app that I can preview on a web browser. Just for me. Not publish it. Just learn. All I have is a laptop. I’m out of a job at the moment and don’t have access to a server.
I’m a notes dev who has never had the time to look at the admin side of things.
So i’m sitting with 8.5.2 installed, and for the life of me cannot work out where to begin setting this up. I remember installing earlier releases it woulkd ask you for setup info along the way, but this just unzipped and installed in one go, no input from me.
Setting up the domain etc. is done when you first run the server - have you done this? You set up the administrator account as part of this which would give you access.
I’d suggest you install the server in a virtualized environment either by using Microsoft’s VirtualPC, VMWare Workstation or VirtualBox (if you’re running Windows 7 you can download a Windows XP virtual OS for VirtualPC for free: for development purposes an XP OS is good enough).
After you’ve setup the virtual OS, install the Domino Server on it and connect through it from the client.
