Setting qouta for existing users

Is it possible to set email dbase size qoutas for existing users? and if so, what are the implications for setting the size for existing emails in their database. For example, a user has a current dbase size of 100MB but we want to set a quota size of 50MB. What happens to the emails? Does it delete or archive the oldest emails? Thanks for any suggestions or info you may have.

Yes, you can impose a quota that is smaller than the current size. Existing email is not lost. However, depending upon how you have your router set up, no more new mail will be delivered until the user is below quota. He/she should also receive messages indicating that they are over quota.

Hi Dennis. Thank you for the response. It looks like the best solution then is to archive their mail file and backup that mailfile to a dvd or cd. Then delete old emails to get them below the quota. In the mean while, they can access their old emails via the archive. Any thoughts to this solution? Also, is it possible to setup a policy to set a quota when registering new users? Thanks again.

I would recommand a quota , for example, 15% higher than the current size and ask the user to clean up his db. After the clean up is made, just decrease his quota until you got to your 50 megs.
