Server Upgrade - Remotely

Is there a way to upgrade the servers remotely? We are planning to move to R6 from 5.08. Is there a way to upgrade the server physically located in Japan sitting in the US?

Thank you

No, you need a Remote Control Software on the System itself. For R6 exists a remote server setup but not if you upgrade from R5 to R6.

Yes, that can be done.

You need a network connection to that server (a fast one!) and a tool to use that server remotely. There are many tools available, depending on your OS (Windows, UNIX, etc.).

I guess you’re using a Windows machine, otherwise you wouldn’t ask that question. With UNIX (AIX, Linux, etc.) it is super easy to log on to another machine and do all the things you want to. With Windows you need something like “Remote Desktop” (the server side software is in Windows 2003 server, the client software is on every standard XP workstation. There’s also other software available (Carbon Copy (does it still exist?), VNC, etc.).

There’s nothing like “Upgrade by mail” or something like you might know from your Notes client.

Cheers
