Server preference from the 8.5.1 client

I am planning an upgrade from the Notes 7.0.2 client to 8.5.1. In preparation for this upgrade, I have one test client installed.

I have multiple servers, named in this manner:

Notes1 – our primary mail and application server

AServer – a secondary backup server

BServer – a disaster recovery server

I have noticed a problem with our customized Welcome Page. On this welcome page we have links to Notes Databases. These links are set up with a 1/2 inch graphic icon and then a hotspot link placed on top of it. The hotspot points to a database on a specific server using this format → “CN=Notes1/O=DomainName!!Our Databases/filename.nsf”

The 8.5.1 client ignores to the pointer to the server. It seems to go instead to the first alphabetically named server (AServer) in our cluster. The 7.02 client does not do this.

It does not happen on every hotspot link yet there are no differences in the way the links are set up. Also to note, the underlying old Workspace does not seem have an influence on picking the server. I thought maybe there might be an icon to the database on the secondary server sitting on the workspace but there was not. Adding / removing icons had no influence in the way these links performed.

Anyone have any thoughts on how I can control database access by limiting it to our primary server yet still be able to failover seamlessly if our primary server is down?
