Hello to everyone,
right now our Domino Servers AND the related databases are placed on a harddisc on a virtuel machine (EMC VMAX; which is part of an ESX-cluster).
- Now there is the suggestion to seperate the mail-databases and put them on a fileserver in our network.
I fear a huge loss in performance compared to our current environment…
Do You have experience in this scenario?
Thanks in advance!
Thorsten
Subject: loss of performance
Ultimately, the exact performance difference comes down to the speed of the connections and speed of each of the two servers, but it will always be slower than if the mail databases were hosted local to the program. It is (at least) 2 hops instead of one.
If you make the move, be sure that the file server is using backup software that is Domino-friendly, and of course is running server-side AV/Anti-malware software. (It should be anyways, if people are storing files on there.)
