Send email from client directly to internet

I have to close down my Domino server for some time. I would like to be able to send emails directly to thr internet from my client. Have tried a few configurations using a new location but I cannot make to work.

An even better solution would be to be able to use Gmail as my “server” for outgoing mails. Incoming mails are redirectted to GMAIL by my provider.

Open for other suggestions

I think you’re on the right track. It’s literally been years (and years) since I’ve set Notes up to connect to one of my internet accounts, but that’s what you’ll want to do.

I no longer have the notes 6 help file, but it should be pretty much the same steps.

See if this helps:

Thanks. Made some progress

Some info is available in the Notes 7 client help files. Now I am trying to find a client 7 installer file for windows. Only found notes 8 trials. I need to make a clean install on a new laptop.

The last release was almost 10 years ago, and support ended 7 years ago.

Yes. It seems impossible to find a notes 7 client installation file. This leads to another question.

Can the latest Windows client communicate with a Domino 7 server?

If so what is the price for a single client?

I see that I can download a trial version but my server is currently down so I can not test compatibility.

Can the latest Windows client communicate with a Domino 7 server?Yes, but if you use designer and create new databases, you could run into potential issues.

If so what is the price for a single client?

I don’t know.

I see that I can download a trial version but my server is currently down so I can not test compatibility.

Thanks Carl!Helpful info.

I will continue trying to get the IMAP connection between Gmail and my Version 7 client working.

You had mentioned it from the very beginning, but I just noticed today that you attempt to use your Notes 7 client with Gmail.

There will be a couple of obstacles or challenges, at least.

You first have to decide, if you want to connect using POP or IMAP. If you want to go with IMAP, the client help contains instructions how to stet up Notes:

If you opt for POP, you first have to set up Gmail to support it:

In either case, Gmail will by default NOT accept any authentication mechanism that Notes 7 is capable of. At the very least you will have to configure Gmail to allow access from less secure apps:

After doing so, Google will constantly nag you with messages, stating that this option should not be enabled for the sake of security. You’ll have to live with that.

I cannot guarantee that this is all you need to make it work, so good luck.
