Saving changes to a doument without a save button on the web

I do no want to say why but I have a web page with editable fields but no save button.

I can save the document with ?SaveDocument when the type the URL into the browsers address bar. This save the document but does not make any changes that I made to the editable fields.

Is there anyway to cause the changes on the form to update the document by simply using the browser?

Why? You could save the document every time one of the fields changes but why would you want to? You’ll generate a lot of server/client traffic . . . I would suggest that you re-examine the reason why you can’t have a save button (have I got this right?) and fix that.

The fact that I can or can’t have a save button is not the issue. I do not want to go into those details.

I just need to know, can it be done without a button.

Have you tried looking at AJAX? Use Javascript events on the form to update the back end document using a serverside agent.

Best I can think of…

I agree. And no page reloading, too. . .

I don’t want to change the form. I just need to know if it is possible to make a change to the document via a URL. I can save it with a URL (properties show in Notes Client that it has been modified) but I can’t seem to effect any changes.

I’m not sure what you are trying to do. Ajax (or any web agent, for that matter) will not change the form, just the backend document. You know that to be the case.

“I can save it with a URL”

Are you saying that you want changes to the document to be reflected in the client?

Bruce,

Could the document you’re saving be running a webquerysave agent that is rejecting the changes you’re making, but still causing a document save?
