We run a Notes 6.5.5 server and a Sametime 6.5.1 FP1 server as 2 instances on an 5.3.0 iSeries system. Our Notes Clients use the IM awareness only, we do not use Sametime clients at this time. We have about 800 users company wide. We have on occasion, been losing connectivity with the Sametime server. The clients will stop communicating and the Sametime server has to be restarted. The Notes server is fine, the Sametime server shows no errors and seems to be running fine, but the clients can’t see it, and I can’t ping to it either. This happened on 10/05 and 10/09, but before this, it hadn’t happened since last May. I logged a support call with IBM and last May they sent me Tech note 1206369, which did not help. anybody have a similar event? Thanks for any help on this.

We were having the same issue when we were on 6.5.4FP1. Did Lotus provide you with the Defensive Hotfix in Technote 1230709? This corrected our problem. Also, after upgrading our clients to 7.0.1 we didn’t have any problems. The fix is actually in the 7.0.1 client.
I also spoke about this at my blog at Chris Whisonant: Sametime server defensive fix for Notes instant messaging

I did not receive the defensive fix but will check it out. Just as I was responding, Sametime dropped again, it never happened twice in one day. Thanks for your help.

I will let you know what happens, today(10/10), the Sametime has not dropped. IBM sent me instructions of what reports to run if it does “hang up” including a download command: DMPSVRSTK. I requested the defensive fix, but have not received it yet. I am thinking it could be one client that is having an issue and may be sending out too many requests? Maybe that user is not logged in today? But I will wait and see. Thanks again for the help.

Timothy, mine was REALLY sporadic… Sometimes it would crash once a week and sometimes it would crash multiple times per day. I loaded the defensive fix at the same time that I started my 7.0.1 client rollout. I’m pretty sure the defensive fix took care of it, but I can’t say that with 100% certainty since the 7.0.1 client was supposed to have fixed it as well. I know that I haven’t had the problem since loading the fix, though.

Yep, had the same thing happening. We upgraded all the clients we could to Notes 7.0 but it had little effect. We upgraded the Sametime server to Domino 7.0 and Sametime 7.0 and it’s worked like a champ for the past 6+ months. Prior to that we had to restart the Sametime server every 2 -3 days.
