hi
so i got that message, on a very important 4gb+ database. did not have the time to make any archive. its not a question that i will be fired, or dead, soon. the ‘lotusnotesrecovery’ tool cant recover the dbase correctly (very small .dxl files without usefull data inside).
I know i cant recover it. Impossible. I just wanna know why did it happened, what could cause this?
Maybe this:
I shut down the domino server, made a copy from the .nsf to another hard drive (in another machine) then deleted the nsf from server, made a defragmentation on both the drive where i copied the dbase and on the server, copied back the nsf to the server and then kaboom. Now i cant open it.
Can defragmentation cause this? Can i just copy the .nsf databases to anywhere safely and then copy it back to the server? I have read that compacting and defrag. running at the same time can cause this corruption, but why? Under the compact task is not the dbase locked? Like i mentioned the server task was shut down. Im just curious.
What is the best practice to make backup from these files, should i use replication? Is replication the only ‘correct’ way for backuping? How can i defragment these files?
Thank You!
sorry for bad english and noobizm.
