I’m having trouble with a server that has been working for a long time and started to have problems. I did some changes to it but now I get:
Router: Mail Router started for domain WORKFLO SYSTEMS
Router: Internet SMTP host wfsystems in domain ca
Router: DNS Resolver failed to initialize.: DNS resolver error
Router: No messages transferred to CN=WEBSERVER/O=MYORG (host CN=SERVER/O=MYORG) via SMTP: The remote server is not a known TCP/IP host.
from the server I can ping wfsystems.ca and it finds it fine, so the issue appears to be withing the Domino configuration. WebServer/MyOrg is located at wfsystems,ca
I have searched and as far as I can see the IP address on the internal server is set correctly and the connection document from CN=InternalServer/O=MYORG to CN=WEBSERVER/O=MYORG is correct. I even changed the address of the WebServer to the actual IP address in the connection document and that does not seem to have made any difference. I have search the registry for TCPIP and where ever an IP address is given it is correct.
I have done a google search on “Router: DNS Resolver failed to initialize.: DNS resolver error” and I have tried all the responses that I have seen there to no avail.
Inbound email from WEBSERVER to INTERNALSERVER is working fine.
This is a N/D Server running 9.0.1
I’m really puzzled, any help greatly appreciated.
Subject: Make sure you have valid DNS servers configured in the OS
The DNS servers need to be reachable and returning valid information. One way to test this outside of Domino is to use nslookup or dig. You can also try adding the Domino notes.ini parameter DNSServer=x.x.x.x, where x.x.x.x is the IP address of a DNS server. This is less optimal than having a proper configuration at the OS level, though, as there’s no failover. If neither works, you probably have a low-level networking issue. What changes did you make in that area?
Subject: Resolved the DNS Resolver issue but …
I had entered a fully qualified Internet name in my InternalServer server document. Took that out and now I don’t get the resolver error. However, I still get this message
Router: No messages transferred to CN=WEBSERVER/O=WEBORG (host CN=WEBSERVER/O=WEBORG) via SMTP: The remote server is not a known TCP/IP host
The WebServer is running and receiving mail and transferring it to InternalServer that delivers it to the correct user.
However, when sending from a client connected to InternalServer the InternalServer displays the message above.
The connection Document of Internal server points to WebServer (I changed the Optional Address for WebServer to it’s actual IP Address).
There have been no changes to the WebServer side.
I can replicate from the Internal Server to The WebServer so my connection document from Internal to WebServer would appear to be correct.
if from the internal Server Admin Console I issue the command:
replicate webserver/weborg names.nsf
the replication works fine and the names.nsf on the WebServer is updated with the latest changes.
From a client I can open a DB on WebServer.
So I must have changed something on the internal server inadvertently but I can’t for the life of me figure out what it might have been.
Subject: Do you have a Domino name where an FQDN is expected?
The error indicates we are looking for an FQDN like webserver.acme.com, but we instead have the Domino name, and that Domino name is not mapped to a TCP/IP address. You might want to recheck your configuration, starting here and using the related docs.
