Rich Text Lite & Thumbnail Import

I’ve noticed that when I use the RTLite import option in the 8.5 client to create and resize a thumbnail representation of an image, the following occurs:

Immediatly upon import and before document save, the image is resized properly and all is good. When you re-open the document (edit mode or not) the image gets a 1 pixel black line at the top added to it. The next open, it appears that there is a larger black line - perhaps 2 pixels, and so on. I’ve not seen a line larger than approx 10 pixels yet.

I thought this was something with the display within the Notes Client, but the image file is actually being modified and the line is visible with a browser.

There are no manipulations being done with the image file (.jpg) programatically (on my end) after the load or upon open.

Anyone ever see this?

Subject: Me too!

I totally have noticed this too and it broke my heart b/c before that it was the perfect solution for our HR Photo Directory. Not only does that black line on top get bigger I think the overall quality of the jpg deteriorates with each save…even though I’m not touching that item. Really weird but glad I’m not the only one who noticed this…I thought I was losing it.

We’re running 8.5.1 FP1 on i5 series. My clients are also 8.5.1 FP1.

Subject: This issue impacts the new 8.5 NAB photos

I dug a bit deeper into this and discovered that this problem is happening with the 8.5 NAB contact photos.

I called tech support and they were able to duplicate. SPR # RPEA83DNEZ.

To duplicate, add a photo to a contact in the 8.5 NAB which uses the Rich Text Lite field. Open and save the document a few times and you will begin to see a black line form at the top of the photo and grow larger over time. The image file is changing with each save. When you think about it with respect to the NAB, all images are slowly deteriorating.

Also, you can see that IBM had this problem when they published the Redbook on 8.5 and also in screenshots of the Proof of Technology slides for 8.5.

I suspect that this will be corrected soon because of the widespread impact (NAB especially) and corruption of data (yes - pictures count as data) occuring.

Subject: You’re not alone!

Yes, I also verified this kind of problem. It seems as, everytime you save the document that contains the thumbnail, it updates the image stored in the attachment with the image rendered in the RT Lite field. Unfortunately the rendering operation is not very good even if you set not to resize images in RTL field properties.

Please if you receive any feedback from IBM, let us know!
