Well this was kept very quiet! I was just going through the new features of the Notes 7 Client and was intrigued by the ability to add document links when responding to meetings with comments. Hang on, I thought, the comments box is in a dialog, and a document link is rich text - you can’t enter rich text in dialog box and have it appear on the underlying document…can you?
Sure enough, after a bit of playing about, I can comfirm that
a) there is a new feature of Rich Text Lite fields in ND7 which allows your users to enter links (document, view, db links, URLs, etc)
and b) you can use a rich text lite field on your dialog form, and have the rich text entered appear in the underlying document. All you have to do is make sure you have a Call source.Refresh(True) in the QueryClose of the form/subform you’re using for the dialog. It would seem you have been able to do this since at least ND6.5 - can anyone comfirm it in earlier versions?
Is it just me, or is this a huge bonus to application developers? I can’t understand why this wasn’t more of a fuss made about this. I can’t find any mention of it in either the ND6 or ND7 documentation, and there’s only a tiny 'Note: Links is a new type with Notes Designer 7.0. It allows links to documents, views, databases, and URLs. ’ in the help saying about the Links feature. Neither of these things are mentioned in the ‘What’s New’ sections at all.
Is is that everyone else just knew about this and I’ve taken how ever many years it’s been since ND6 came out to catch up?! Please tell me there are other people out there who didn’t know about this until now!
Emily.
