Rich Text field recalculates on save, but is hidden

This is strange. I have a rich text field (body) whose original contents were created in a Notes Client. When this document is opened over the web and edited, this body field is inside an access controlled section which does not allow editing to it. The field itself is hidden for the web. It doesn’t display in the browser. When the document is saved it is recalculated anyway. I know this because when I look at its document properties via a notes client it goes from a summary of:

Field Name: Body

Date Type: Rich Text

Date Length: 9714 bytes

Seq Num: 1

Dup Item ID: 0

Field Flags:

and changes to this:

Field Name: Body

Date Type: Rich Text

Date Length: 5904 bytes

Seq Num: 2

Dup Item ID: 0

Field Flags:

The data isn’t editable in the document, but the problem is when the document is saved via the web the original Notes Client formatting in the body is chucked and all I get is flat text.

How is it possible it is saving the field when I told it not to display over the web or to be editable? Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks for reading.

Hiding the field isn’t enough, and putting it in a section also does nothing. I think you should put the field into a Computed subform, and set the formula to call a version of the subform where the field is entirely missing, not just hidden.

Well Duh! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that before. It must have been late on a Friday after a long week. Much thanks for the kick in the head.
