Good morning. We need to create a table in Oracle to keep the documents converted from Notes. My question is what kind of data type (BLOB or CLOB) in Oracle will match rich text field in Notes. I mean should I caeate BLOB data type for rich text field or should create CLOB data type for rich text field?
Can I ask what is the different between BLOB and CLOB data type in Oracle?
Thanks,
Linda

It depends on what you mean by “converted from Notes”, and what you intend to do with the data. If this were an archive solution, you could keep a binary BLOB in Oracle, but it would be useless except as a way to get the data back in to Notes. If instead you want to use the data in Oracle, it should be converted to HTML, or better XHTML, or possibly DXL, so that the content is accessible. I think there is a native XML type in Oracle which DXL or XHTML could be stored in, or either could be stored as text or in a BLOB.
I have no idea what a CLOB is or what the difference between that and a BLOB is.

CLOB = character large objectBLOB = binary large object
BLOBs are appropriate for files, CLOBS for vast swathes of plain text.

So CLOBS would be more appropriate for HTML/XHTML/DXL, whereas BLOBS would be more appropriate for a dump of rich text data in binary. Thanks, good to know.

Thanks Ben for your response. In our case, just to archive notes database to Oracle. So, we can use BLOB data type within the table to match the rich text field.
I just took a look a Oracle and found another data type named CLOB–"single-byte character 4 gbyte).
Once again, thank you so much for your help.
Linda.
