RestrictToCategory returns "No Documents"

I have a view where the first column is hidden and the second is categorized. When I attempt to use RestrictToCategory on the second column it returns “No Documents”. I have other views with columns before the categorized one and they work fine. If I delete the first column it works OK but I don’t have that option. The only thing different is the first column contains a formula that does a bunch of date calculations to force a sort order.

I wasn’t able to find anything on this through searching the forums. What am I missing? Thanks

It is possible that you have a corrupt column. Try create 2 new columns at the start of the view the old fashioned way( ie don’t copy an existing column), with the same formula as the first 2 columns you have now. See if that works.

Interesting. I created a new column, pasted the formula in, and deleted the old column. The doc then appeared but they were in the wrong sort order. I had forgotten to check Descending sort order. When I did that and opened the view, I got “No Documents” just like before. The same thing happens with Ascending checked but the docs do appear when I have None as the setting.

Why would the sort order prevent docs from showing in a RestrictToCategory view? Hmm…

Hi Tim ,

It shows a “No documents” when you have the first colum sorted (either ascending or descending) because :

Even if you have second column as the categorised one , if your first column is sorted ,the category (The one you give in RestrictToCategory=Category)will be looked in the first sorted column.
