Hello,
Does anyone know if there are any articles about how to setup replication within a domain ??? Currently we work with central HUB but because of growth/expansion we get more and more replication conflicts… We like to know if there is any advise about replication schedules etc…
Cheers,
Matthijs
Subject: Replication advice
Matthijs,
You can search around, although I’m not sure there is an article on replication topology that has been written in the past few years.
The rules we have seen most successfully applied are:
-
For a large number of servers, hub/spoke is great
-
Make sure that your servers have large time gaps between replication events, otherwise you’ll be in trouble when you have major data loads (replication will take too long and not complete)
-
Hub servers can be configured to optimize for replication if they have no user traffic by eliminating most server tasks.
-
Of course, you can use document locking if your domain is set up for it, but even without that you can design applications to minimize the chances of rep/save conflicts. But they are a fact of life in a distributed environment and you also have to plan for a certain amount of administrative overhead for any large application.
