Replace design

Hi,

Our clients and servers our version 6 now.

What would be the best method to upgrade the mail files by group of about 100 users at a time over night to version 6 from version 5.

Thanks for help.

Thank you for your responses.I was hoping there was a program I could use right after the compact program. It looks like I will spend a few more evening for this.

Thanks.

Since you asked for the best way, I’d second JY’s recommendation to use the convert task. The downside of using the convert task (as opposed to emailing an upgrade notification) is that it puts a large load on the server; so large that you’ll be forced to do it outside of production hours, meaning you’re at the office late or on a weekend. The upside of using the convert task is that you can compact all the mail files immediately before converting them, which seems to help in preventing things lke disappearing Inboxes and stuff.

We did our conversion on weekend. Launch it on friday night and it was ready during the weekend. Did about 500 users every weeks.

It is very difficult to guage how long the “load convert” task will take due to the variables from one environment to another. This method is server centric. So, it depends on number of users to convert, and most signifigantly, server resources that the conversion is being done on. As one resonder said: this can take a very long time to complete as the compaction task should also be run prior to the conversion. The email upgrade notification option can mitigate this, but it has it’s downside as well. The network will be taxed with this method (but most can handle it depending on how many users upgrade simultaneously) as well as the server to some extent. And, there can be unpleasant side affects. Such as lost folders, documents, etc. I agree that you should check the IBM/Lotus web site for more information to help guide you in your unique environment.
