Recommended maintenance for local mail (and other) replicas

What is the IBM recommendation for performing maintenance on a local PC which has local replicas of mail and/or databases?

Periodically I have to run this bat file to clean things up:

del cache.ndk

…\nfixup -f -J mail\lbdyck.nsf

…\ncompact -B mail\lbdyck.nsf

…\nupdall -R mail\lbdyck.nsf

It would be nice (hint hint) if upon a notes client startup if there were an option to perform these types of actions on the local files (hint hint).

Subject: could you tell us more?

I know all three commands, use them sometimes on servers, but have not needed to use them on my client for years. (But I knew they would work).

With what problem are you fighting you have to solve this way?

Subject: Fixup

Perhaps this process could be incorporated into the Notes client logon/startup process with an option to perform database cleanup after logon validation and before the application opens.

Subject: Technically most likely yes.

I am still stunned, that you seam to think that this is necessary. - I would think something is wrong with your installation, but not more processes missing.

Subject: granted

I grant you that this is a rare need but when it is needed try to explain to the poor non-technical laptop user that they have to do x then y and then z to fix things up or that they have to wait for a technician to come visit them.

Subject: Now that way it makes sense.

I am still wondering if you are working with a point release, where something goes wrong - probably not worth searching for.

Subject: ongoing issue

I’ve seen various issues with a local replica (of both mail and db’s) since I started working locally on both my laptop and on others probably starting with ND5.x. Just last week I helped a co-worker running 6.54 who had issues - just removing the cache.ndk appeared to solve his issue but three months ago a full nfixup, etc was needed.

Subject: fixing the local

occasionally there are issues on the local that need to be addressed for one reason or another - most seem to be when the laptop crashes when notes is doing something locally. Another instance where this has been needed is when a defrag is done (I haven’t nailed it down to which ones but the native windows seems ok) which causes corruption in the db (index I believe).
