R7 template and r6 server

Hello,

I have 3 domino servers running r6.5.4 and 1 domino server r7. I noticed that we have r7 templates got replicated in to r6 server’s data directory. So far I have no issues from any servers. They all are running fine. We even had server crash due to some other programs and I had to shut down and restart one of the r6 server but did not had any problem.

I know so far that even if the names.nsf from r6 server has the template of r7, it still will work but only r7 related code will not work.

We are in a proccess of upgrading r6 servers to r7 server. Do I need to really worry about replacing all the r7 templates with r6 templates?

If I have to do that, can I copy all the r6 templates from one of the r6 test server, sign it with appropriate server ID and then copy back to r6 servers?

No you don’t.

The templates are designed to be backwards compatible.

You would normally upgrade the administration server of the domino directory first and let the changes replicate throughout your domain.

Download and read the R7 upgrade redbook. That gives advice on running in ‘mixed’ environments.
