From my limited testing of Smart Upgrade triggering template upgrades for users, I seem to remember that it’s very fussy about the format in which you specify the Notes versions that should trigger particular templates to be applied (on the first tab of Desktop Settings). From the Domino Admin help:
Enter the build version of the Notes client in the format Build Vnn_mmddyyyy (example, Build V60_06282002). To upgrade all versions, use an asterisk *. Tip To find the build version, use Help - About Domino Administrator.
I’m not sure if this is the same as Smart Upgrade. R5 doesn’t support Smart Upgrade. That’s why I’m using Send Upgrade Notification to upgrade by mail. I know the template name is case sensitive, and I’m sure that’s not the problem.
Yes, you’re right, you can’t use SmartUpgrade for Notes R5 clients.
But once you have upgraded the clients to Notes 6.x or 7 (e.g. via Send Upgrade Notifications), then the “Seamless Mail File Upgrade” feature can be used to upgrade the users’ mail files to match your selected template.
This is set in the Desktop Policy Settings as I mentioned in the previous posting. Glad you’ve got it working now!
