Hi,
Can anybody recommend a quick, clean way to rename an R6 Domino server? I’m looking for a method to return to the Domino Server Setup screen if possible. I want to avoid having to re-install Domino software or using AdminP.
Your advice and comments appreciated.

Subject: R6 Server Re-Name
The way is not easy!
-
backup the server!
-
register e new server! you cannot rename it.
-
process all adminP requests and mail routings
-
set startup of the service (Lotus domino …) to manual.
-
edit the notes.ini: delete all but not kittype=2 und directory=…
-
start the server as application and yuo can it configure with the new server ID
then you have to change all documents withe the server name in it:
-
connections
-
configurations
-
mailserver in person and mail-in documents
-
set the adminserver in all ACLs of the databases to the new server name
-
in all appplications with triggered agents run on server have to change the server name
-
check the code in customized applications containing server names
and on all clients:
server name in location documents, connection documents …
think, that’s not all.
Why do you want to rename the server?
if you need ist, the better way is to use (temporarily) a second server with clustering and using the adminP to provide the steps to move user.

Hi Holger,
Thanks for your response, some helpful suggestions. I particularly like your idea about a second server with clustering (nice).
Thanx. Ginge.

And consider buying a third-party tool to manage all the changes in users’ desktop/bookmark files.
