Hi all,
Wish someone could advice me on the feasibile operation setup as follow:
(1) Designing DB using R5 Designer
(2) DB resides on R6 server
Can I later deploy this DB on a R5 server in customer site? Is this recommended? I hope not to download my R6 server as this may takes time and need a lot of adjustments to server settings for a downgrade from R6 to R5.
Appreciate if anyone can point me to any Lotus documentation on this too. Thanks!
Regards,
TecK
Subject: Question on R5 and R6 interoperability
We’re working in the same mixed environment that you will be using with no problems.
When you decide to use the R6 Designer, make sure you test your applications very carefully before moving to production. Things that work fine in R5 can suddenly break in R6.
Subject: Question on R5 and R6 interoperability
Hello !
You should have NO problem at all when deploying the applications, but there are several things that you should be aware of. Among these are ODS. To get a complete understanding on how to develop applications for mixed releases of client and server, check out the Redbook a co-writed, “Domino Designer 6: A Developer’s Handbook”, which you find here:
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg246854.pdf
Check out chapter 2.9 (Developing for mixed releases of clients) as well as 2.10 (On-Disk Structure).
Hope this helps you around.

Subject: Question on R5 and R6 interoperability
No problems – R5 code works on ND6, and only the ODS (on-disk structure) would prevent an OS-level copy to an R5 server. To deploy on an R5 server, create a new replica or copy on the target server.
