Question about removal of NNTP from R6 Server?

Hi Freinds,

This is a question for Lotus.

I am working on a project for a client who is one of the worlds biggest corporate. I had a request to enable NNTP for the client. When i tried to do the same, I understood that Domino 6 doesnt support (And i also got that Notes 6 continue to support).

  1. I would like to know why it has removed?

  2. Is it possible for me to enable NNTP service on a R6 domino server by any means?

Customer feedback is why it was removed. No one was really using it, and it was just a door that didn’t need to be opened. You can configure the client to be your NNTP reader, but you cannot configure a D6 server to be a NNTP server.

Hi Michael,

So in case if I use R5 with NNTP and still want to upgrade to R6 and continue with NNTP, i cant do it. Is it?

If its right, I will be destined to work with R5 only in this case??? Or Stop NNTP and upgrade to R6.

Am i right?

That is correct. If you want to use NNTP, the server has to remain R5.

If NNTP is an absolute requirement, then there is nothing to say that you can’t keep one server at R5 level just for this purpose. (This does assume that you are in a multi-server environment.)

If you are, then it will work quite well. Have an R5 server handling NNTP traffic out to the R6 clients.
