When setting up a Domino 6.0 server using the setup wizard, I want to use the option to specify the location of my system databases from CD or other media. It allows me to specify this location and tick the box, so I should have thought that I would just be able to leave the box blank to specify the existing server name because I don’t want to get the NAB,etc from the existing server.
However, if you leave this blank it gives you the error “INVALID SERVER NAME” and basically insists that you enter an existing server EVEN THOUGH you do not need the existing server for the DBs.
This would appear to be a bug since the whole point of being able to provide the system DBs from CD or disk is probably because your existing server isn’t readily available on the network.
I haven’t tried this on 6.01 but I cannot see an SPR for this anyway, nor a technote on the support site.
Has anyone else encountered this?
Thanks in advance
Subject: Provide System Databases during setup
I have exactly the same problem when installing 6.0.1. I can’t add much to Phil’s description other than I too am finding this extremely annoying!
I will attempt to use the remote setup program to see if this gets around the problem - in the meantime if anyone (Lotus?) can help I would be most appreciative.

This problem still exists in 6.0.3 and 6.5. I just enter the name of the server that I am installing and the installation goes smooth.

Same problem on 6.5.1.You still cannot leave the existing server field blank. If you put a valid server name in this field, setup tries to connect to the existing server…

If you put the name of the server you are installing, NotesServer1/Srv/ANY, in the server name field and then browse to the CD or other external source, it will work. Also, make sure you haven’t already copied the files to the DATA directory, Names/Admin4.nsf, it doesn’t seem to like writing over them.

Thanks for posting that Sue. Seems this problem also exists for 6.5.4.

Problem still existing for R7.0.2.
