I work for an organisation that does not want to force users to change their notes passwords, but would like to provide an ‘easier’ way for users to change their password if they choose (rather than than asking them to find the User Security dialog.
Is there a way to use a button or action to programatically fire off the ‘Change Password’ button found on the User Security Dialog? I understand LotusScript, but not API or Java and i have a feeling it will be necessary to use these to get the job done.
We run version 6.5.4 FP1 on WinXP and Windows Server 2003. Any suggestions offered would be appreciated.
Subject: Programatically prompting user to change notes password
I think that C API is the only way to do it. I haven’t try it by myself, but here is the theory:
Create a LotusScript button which asks for the old password, then asks for a new password and then triggers the C API to programmatically change the password in background. After the password is successfully changed, button sends a confirmation to admin.
Send this button to users by email and tell them to click the button in order to perform the mandatory password change.
For users who didn’t click the button (no notification was sent to admin), send a BIGGER button again next day.
Here you can find API example for changing the password:
I will try to implement the solution suggested above and post the results and the code in my blog and here. Check my blog in a couple of days if you don’t find a solution.
