I have a strange problem with this mail db, but only on a full client with Designer &Admin.
OS is Win 10 (Details below)
Clients 12.0.1 FP1 -12.0.2 FP4
The problem is reproducable:
- Open Client
- Open Designer
- Open a db in the designer,
- Open mail -> empty mail frame,no content, Notes hangs
This only happens with the email database, all other DBs are not concerned.
Any ideas what going on in the mail db during start ?

Can you try below methods and share the results
1. Close Notes Client and Designer / Admin Clients and start only Notes Client
From Workspace, right click on the database and click on Open in Designer.
2. Temporarily change the access to Manager and check.

1. Done, no problem. As long as the template of the mail db is open in the designer everything is ok.
2. Has no effect. It still hangs in the described situation
Either one keeps the mail DB open in the client or one keeps in the designer the DB open.

Hello,
I think increasing JVM memory will help to avoid these issues.
Please open < Notes program dir>/framework/rcp/deploy/jvm.properties file and confirm the following parameters.
The following example shows the default values for 12.0.2.
vmarg.Xmx=-Xmx512m
vmarg.Xms=-Xms256m
vmarg.Xmca=-Xmca512k
vmarg.Xss=-Xss1m
If a value smaller than the above is set, it is recommended to increase it.
And I also recommend to clear cache files. Please refer to the "Troubleshooting steps: " section in the following KA.

I verified the jvm.properties values you mentioned. Everything ok.
I deleted cache.ndk .
And still the same problem.
I will now try to debug the mail db when I open it. I think that there is something in the start procedure of the mail file that causes this problem, becasue its always only(!) a problem with the mail file..
If it is DOMI related I might not be able to debug it, but I can tell you guys at what point it stops.

Is this client 32 bit or 64 bit? If it is 64 bit, try opening with 32 bit client and let us know the results.

it is the 32-bit client.
I have now changed the mail template to 12.0.2 (20.10.2022) and its still the same problem.
As a workaround I open now immediately when I open the designer the mail file in the designer. Then everything works. If I close the mail db in the designer and I close it in the client and then try to reopen the mail -> Bang !
I event tried to debug LS during the start phase of the mail and had to learn that the problem happens before the debugger window opens. Then the client & designer hang and when I press the x button, both windows disappear and ... the degugger window appears- Of course also blocked.
Our admins have now sent my notebook onto the Windows 11 upgrade tour. Was told it may take up to 2 hours. C u l8r

load fixup mail\databasename.nsf -F -J
load compact mail\databasename.nsf -c -D -I -K
load updall mail\databasename.nsf -R

If this is happening with single mail db and all other mail dbs are opening fine then there is some corruption in that mail DB and running maintenance should fix it. If your Designer Client is giving issues in opening all the mail dbs then it is the issue with that machine specific Designer Client. So please try Designer Client from a different machine and it should work fine. Open the Notes Client (in standard mode) before opening a Designer Client and then it open the Designer client more easily. Also from Designer Client, select "File > Close All" to close all the open databases and then open the specific mail db by going to File > Open > Application. If this is still not working then make sure that, Designer Client is in the same network as that of server. Sometimes if the network is slower then it gives problems in opening the database. I hope all this should help.

Tested it now several times and had no more problems.
There is another user with a designer client who ran into the same problem. I have told our admins to do the above to his mail file as well. After he's back from holidays he can verify his mail db.

unfortunately I have got the problem again.
But now I am using Notes 12.0.2 FP4 , Windows 11 and the Mail template 12.0.2 (20.10.2022)
And(!) I am now in Home Office thus I am using a VPN. But problem is still only with the Mail DB.

Hi Joe,
It looks like your database is corrupt.
If you have any working replica of this database which is not having this issue, then you can later replace the affected db with the working good replica.
For now, you can still try the maintenance commands to get it fixed for time being.
If you do not have a backup of this database then it is highly recommended to take a safe backup since this database can go corrupt.

now teh DB isnot corrupt - that would solve the problem. :-)
Have now anoterh DB that hangs my Notes Client when opened at the "wrong" moment.
But there is one thing in common:
its also a mail db
Its a version 8.5 mail and my mail db is 12.0.2
Running on client/designer/admin 12.0.2 FP4
It does not happen while debugging or I have to debug the opening "ceremony" simply often enough :-)

Update:
Now i am using 12.0.2. FP5 and the problem persists.
Both mail dbs have the ability to hang the client and it happens before I have a chance to use the LS-Debugger.
As the second mail is used also by others i can say that they do not expierience this problems too.
I fear that I have to reinstall the client.
Oh, whats different too is that on my client Ytria is installed.

What happens in the client when a mail db is opened?
Whenever the client is open and then i Open the designer and then I try to open my mail file, the client and the designer both hang. Pushing the X-Button often and long enough leads to a messagebox that says that the program does not answer ... highway to taskman hell ;-)
I can not debug it with the LotusScript debugger. If the mail file is open before the designer was opened then there is no problem as long as I do not close the mail. If I close the mail db and try to reopen it ... damned good chance the client and designer hang. I assume its around 50-60%.
It can't be a corrupt mail file because I have 2 mail files with this problem and one is a mail-in for a group and only I have this problem ! They work on clients 12.0.1 and it works without a problem. I have 12.0.2. FP5 and it hangs. The mail-in db is version 8.5 and my mail db is 12.0.2
It also works on my client as long as the designer is closed. I even had the mail file open once and tried to open the calender and ... client hanged.
Any Ideas ?

Hi there,
I am now on Notes 12.02. FP6 and Windows 11 Pro 23H2
The propblem persists.
This morning it killed my Working Sets ! The working sets exist but are empty. Have to move know every DB in the right working set.
This is really annoying !
