Problem starting Lotus Domino Server 7.02

I wanted to evaluate the 90 day trial version of the Lotus Domino Server. After successfull installation, however, I am not able to start it. In the console window, it states:

LDAP Server: Listener failure, TCP/IP port number [389] is already in use on this system.

Suspending listen task for 20 seconds due to network errors.

It does not get any further. I am running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with a domain controller and active directory. I know that this problem is due to a port conflict with LDAP, but I don’t know how to fix it. Help!!!

Subject: You could also remove ldap from the servertasks= line in the notes.ini

While you’re adding things from the server’s notes.ini you could also remove the ldap task from the server by editing the ServerTasks= line. This line represents the tasks that the Domino server will attempt to load upon start up.

In a minimal configuration, I would suggest (and I know I’m opening a can of worms here)

ServerTasks=Replica,Router,Update,AMgr,RnRMgr,AdminP

To be specific

Replica means you can replicate (one of the big advantages of Domino)

the Router routes mail (!)

Update keeps the database views up to date

AMgr is the agent manager, for little schedulable programs called agents (were known as macros)

RnRMgr is new with R7, and does the Resource Reservations

AdminP is a tasks that assists Domino Administrators doing moderately complex things that we don’t want to do manually (e.g move 3000 users from server B12 to server C22)

You can comment out what was there by just putting a semicolon at the start of the line, and having a second line with what you do want. eg:-

ServerTasks=Replica,Router,Update,AMgr

;ServerTasks=Replica,Router,Update,AMgr,Adminp,Sched,CalConn,RnRMgr

This way you can always work out what you would have had.

I hope this helps you, and welcome to the wonderful and weird world of Domino Administration.

regards

Tim

Try adding

DisableLDAPOnAdmin=1

to the ini file - that should stop LDAP from trying to load, and should solve your problem

for details on the setting, see:
