Having a small problem trying to modify the ACL in the forms6.nsf database on a server to give myself and the Admin group access to the database. The ACL is currently set to: annonymous=reader, default= reader of public documents and local domain servers group= manager.
I tried adding myself to the local domain servers group and tried creating a local replica and I still don’t have access to modify the ACL.
I know there are 3rd party utlities that might help…but how else can I add myself to an ACL on the database in this circumstance?
Would I have to install the Notes client or the Admin client directly onto the server?..which I don’t want to have to do.
Do you have “Full Access Administration” set on the server and are you allowed? If so, turn that on with your admin client and you’ll be able to edit the ACL.
If not… a variety of ways… no need to install a client on the server, it’s not recommended AND if you simply find and launch nlnotes.exe, you’ll have the client open. One way around that…
You could also create a local copy of the database, adjust the ACL, then overwrite the server’s copy with that. This may get messy if you’ve got multiple servers as the forms database is a replica from server to server… so you’ll want to replace the replica ID with the original replica ID to avoid trouble there… or overwrite your other server’s with a new replica of this copy you’ve made.
I gave myself full admin rights, along with a few other groups including the local domain servers group…this didn’t work…I also tried creating a local replica on my client & the acl is still greyed out…so this didn’t work either…
The forms6.nsf database is not a replica across all servers…It’s a different copy of the database on all the servers…so I’ve tried all of these suggestions to no avail…maybe if I use the method of starting up nlnotes.exe and see if tryng to gain acl access locally on the server might work…any other suggestions would be appreciated…thanks!
A local replica won’t matter… you’ll just make a replica with the same ACL. A new copy (local) should allow you to modify the ACL, you can even choose to create the copy with the ACL of the original or deselect that for a “blank” ACL with your name in it, if you copy the existing ACL it helps because it doesn’t copy anythink like “enforce consistent ACL” which may prevent you from tinkering with a local replica. If you’re not working with a replica across the other servers then make a copy and attempt that.
Also for clarification, you said you ahve full admin rights, but did you enable full access administration in your admin client, then attempt to edit the ACL?
create an agent in another database signed by the server that changes the ACL. Been a while since I done stuff like that, so can’t give an example, but it’s not hard to do.
