My boss wants some of the text on a form to be white against a black background when printed. I set up a table on the form and made the background color black. I made the text in it white. It looks good when viewed in the client, but when printed the text comes out black also! Black background, black text.
I've attempted to make the text light grey to solve the problem and it still prints black. Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to fix it?
I’m assuming the printer is either not getting the white format setting or else it is ignoring it. We have several different models of printer in the building; I’m using an HP LaserJet 1100. However I can’t find any setting on the printer options that helps. I don’t know why a b&w printer would not print greyscale or white text.

Subject: same problem here
We can not get text to print out in anything but black as night when printing b&w. I’m trying to get some greyed text to print out a date format suggestion on a notes generated form that is to be filled out by hand, greyed out so it’s obvious you should write over it, but no luck. Every shade of grey prints out solid black, even the lightest shade of blue! Very annoying. Printing in colour is not an option for us. Table backgrounds can come out in any shade of grey you like, but text is hard coded to solid black
Solved by using an image instead of text

At first I thought your Internet Explorer setting to Print background colors and images was toggled off, but then I saw you were referring to the client and that the background was in fact printed correctly.
I can’t find nor think of a setting that would cause this.
I’d try 2 things:
1- make the background a little lighter to see if it corrects the problem.
2- make the text just slightly grey instead of white.
Combine both to see if you can’t find a satisfactory middle-ground.
Sorry, but I have no other ideas at the moment.

Thanks Luc for the suggestions. I’ve tried both of your ideas but neither solved the problem.

Hi David, im also using 6.5.3 and not experiencing the problem u are talking about. Try creating a new a form with a simple table with a black background and white text and try printing it out and see if it still happens.
Also, it might be your hp 1100 printer, or perhaps you’re using a PCL6 driver, if so try switching to a PCL5.
I’m printing on an Hp 2100 using a PCL5e and Notes Client 6.5.3 without a prob. Good luck

Greetings,
Thanks for the advice. We’ve solved the problem, sort of, by printing the form on a color printer. It renders the text just fine.

The other ideas sound good but as a last resort, put another version of the table on the form. The one version can be hidden while printing, the other hidden except while printing. The other version is all Comp ForDisplay, formulas based on the first version. And of course, the other version has a different color scheme. White-on-black print is irritating to read and wastes toner anyway.

Greetings,
Thanks for the advice. I agree, the white-on-black printing is an eyesore. Not my decision however. We’ve solved the problem, sort of, by printing the form on a color printer. It renders the text just fine.
