Printing Parent & Child Docs

Hi-

I would like to combine a parent document and its child docs on one form for printing. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how (or if) this can be done?

Thanks! I appreciate any help that can be provided.

Do you really want them on one form on the screen, then print it? Or do you just want them both to print on the same piece of paper?

If just on paper, look at the print options for selected documents. Select multiple docs, then file>print. What to print=selected documents. Click the Tab “Documents Style” and under “How to print each document”, choose one of the “Print Continuously” options.

If you want to be able to pull both/all into one form, then what you need is a new form. Assuming you don’t want to save the document created with this form, then the first field I know you’ll want is “SaveOptions”=0. Prevents any document created with this form being saved. You probably want it to inherit values from selected document. This would be the parent document. Include all the same forms as on the parent, but make them all computed to the fieldname. I think you’ll also need to somehow grab the parent UNID. Then you’ll need to kick off a script that would locate the child documents and copy their field values into other fields on the form. That’ll be the hard part. I’m not sure if you could run that in the queryopen, or if you’d need a button to run it. You’re probably looking at using the GetDocumentByUNID method and GetChild method. Remember that if you add fields to the other form(s) later, you’ll need to modify this ‘print’ form to show those fields.

I want them to all print on the same piece of paper & I don’t need to save the document, just print it. The option you gave for print selected documents and print continously works, but do you know if there is a way to automate that in a button? THANKS!

Check out the Designer Help, NotesUIView, print method. I haven’t used this, but it looks like it will do what you want.

Thanks. Yes, it almost does everything I need except that the information from the profile document is printing multiple times (depending on the number of child docs). Do you know how I can have the header information only print once?

Thanks!!
