Postscript printing fails to HP Laserjet printer

After upgrading to Lotus Notes client v8.5.1, printing to our HP Laserjet 4300n printers no longer works. Our default configuration has the printers using the generic postscript driver. The printer is connected via jetdirect networking. The print job successfully processes through the client system, but the printer itself does not print anything. There are no error messages. The data light on the printer briefly blinks, showing that the print job was sent to the printer, but nothing prints.

All other applications tested can successfully print. Lotus Notes client v8.5 with/without fix pack 1 also works.

Postscript printing to other printers seems to work just fine. It appears that Notes v8.5.1 has introduced an incompatibility with some postscript printers.

Please advise if there is a solution, or if other users are experiencing similar problems.

Subject: Had same issue. Try this:

Go to File -Preferences and on the Basic tab uncheck “Process Print requests as a background task.” After doing this, we had no problems printing, except for a MAC client, because it does not have that option in the preferences. I’m still trying to find a fix for that one.
