Populate checkbox field on a web form

Forgive me my ignorance. I am trying to populate a checkbox field on a web form with values from a view. I’ve tried using @DbColumn but the output is an empty checkbox without a label. Could it be that @DbColumn is valid for the Notes client only?

when you say “populate” do you mean you want to use tha values form the @DbColumn for choices? @DbColumn absolutely works on the web. If you post your @DbColumn formula, I can give you more feedback

Well I have a view named Products (alias is “vProducts”)the structure of the view is:

Column 1 (hidden): Name : unid; Value: Formula:@Text(@DocumentUniqueID) Ascending sort

Column 2: Name : productName; Value: Field:ProductName

Column 3 Name: productPrice; Value: Field:ProductPrice

the formula I use for the labels of the checkboxes is:

@DbColumn(“”:“NoCache” ; @DbName ; “vProducts” ; 2)

When I test the form in the notes client, I get the desired output (visually speaking).

I’ve put the @dbcolumn formula in the textarea on the 2nd tab of the checkbox field properties dialog.

Sorry if this looks horrible to you. I’m just beginning with web forms on Domino. I have a lot to learn.

I think it’s the @DbName that’s causing the problem. You don’t need to put anything there if it’s the same db. Try this:

@Trim(@Unique(@DbColumn(“” : “NoCache” ; “” : “” ; “vProducts” ; 2)))

I’ve tried this solution. Unfortunately, I ended up with the same result. I would be very surprised if Domino didn’t handle the formula generated fields on the web. Should I try to generate the checkbox field values in a agent runned from the WebQueryOpen event of the form? Domino Designer documentation says WQO is triggered before the form is translated to HTML and sent to the browser.

Are there readers fields on the documents in the view?

If the form being opened is for authenticated users try appending ‘&Login’ to the end of your URL. Sometimes you need this for view lookups to work correctly.

Actually no, there arent any readers fields on the documents. The web form is publicly available and serves for user input only. I just need to generate a checkbox field containing the appropriate Product names (product Id as alias) from the (available products) view and display it on the user input form.

Make sure (sorry if this sounds too simple) your view is visible on the web by putting it’s name in your url: http://server/path/database.nsf/VIEWNAME?OpenView

What you want to do is so normal, the solution must be something simple… make another view and use that one… same columns (no categories) and see if that works.

ok…did you try appending ‘&Login’ to the end of the url for the page? I had a similar issue with view lookups not working & that resolved it.

Of course people need to be logged in.

Problem solved…Thank you very much for your precious help.There WAS (didn’t notice it because it was very well hidden) a Readers field on the form that created products documents. It was preventing the @DbColumn formula from reading data from the view. I am sorry for troubling you all so much for such a little problem.

Best regards,

Remi

Aah…those pesky readers fields. Yeah thought it might have been something like that as I mentioned earlier but glad to hear you’ve now resolved it.
