POP3 Delay Receiving Mail

Hi:

Most of our users are using Notes clients on Windows machines to send/receive mail using TCP/IP. However we also have several MAC clients on the same subnet, picking up mail from our Domino Server using POP accounts and MAC’s mail client.

Occasionally, only the MAC users have complained that they are experiencing a delay of several hours in receiving mail. In some cases, the sender will have sent the message to several recipients. The recipients using Windows/Notes clients will receive the message quickly – While the MAC/Mail clients will not receive the message for several hours, even though they have checked their mail multiple times in the interim.

I wish this was a problem we could reproduce on-demand but, so far, we haven’t been able to.

At this point I haven’t a clue what to do next. We have message tracking enabled on the server, and I can see that the message arrives in the MAC user’s database at the same time it arrives in the Windows user’s database. So I’m thinking the problem has to do with POP.

Anybody have an idea what might be happening?

Mark

When you say Mac mail client are you refereing to Mail version 2.0.2 running on Tiger?

If so I think it’s the nature of the beast.

All you can really do is set the “Check for new mail:” to 5 minutes or less and keep your fingers crossed.

I’ve checked the clients. They’re all running Panther, one is using version 1.3.9 of the mail client, the others are using version 1.3.11

Mark, I have the same issue using the SnapperMail client on my Treo. It’s definitely a POP/IMAP issue as the message is available on the Notes Client and DWA. It’s not necessarily a POP issue as I’m using IMAP via my SnapperMail client. Very frustrating though. I haven’t gone as far as bounce the server to see if that helps.
