Policy settings being ignored - Encrypt and scan for unread

I have had many issues since Mon Nov 2 with policies. Policy Settings documents were left inplace during an upgrade from 6.5.4 to 8.5 in August 2009. All of a sudden, the policy settings are being ignored and users now have ‘encrypt mail’, ‘sign mail’. ‘scan for unread’, and ‘always prompt to save mail’ enabled when the policy clearly states that they should be disabled.

I have recreated the policies, deleted existing policies from users and recreated/reapplied and those settings keep truning back on - in complete contradiction to the policy itself.

This is unbelieveable and downright frustrating. I will remove all policies as a last resort, but then how do we control users from changing client settings (I have 110 mobile users who are very creative).

Anyone with any answers, please respond.

Edit the “Policy Names” from the admin. There are some tricky things to look at re: how Policy Presedence applies a policy if the policy on a user doc is not there or not listed in the proper order. Also, I gave in and ababndoned the person doc method of policy assignment for the Policy Assignment section on the named Policy doc itself. Much more efficient and less time consuming.

I also needed to copy the olde policy docs over because we built new servers. Not sure if that is your case as well. Also new domain.
