I have 4 Domino mail servers. 2 are 7.0.2 & 2 are 8.5.1. I also have a Vault which has been configured correctly and I have people already in the Vault (mostly new people). I have been relocating mailfiles from the 7 servers to the 8 servers without issue.
Half of the users are receiving the MailR85 template for their mailfile. Due to a third-party application, the other half are still using the DWA7 template.
I go into People & Groups and the users are granted the appropriate policy and some of them have been added to the Vault. From what I can tell, the Template may be the deciding factor but I just want to be certain before I get managerial complaints.
Subject: The mail template is not a factor.
Uploading ID files to the vault is not related to the mail template.
Are your users using Lotus Notes 8.5 or higher? To use a vault, Lotus Notes clients must run Release 8.5 or later.
Or are they accessing their mail through iNotes (DWA)?
To enable the use of ID vault for Lotus iNotes users, you must enable “Allow Notes-based programs to use the Notes ID vault” on the ID Vault tab of the Security policy setting document.
When the user accesses an 8.51+ mail server and performs a secure mail operation over iNotes, such as sending a signed message or reading an encrypted message, the ID file will be automatically uploaded to the ID vault.
Have you noticed anything else different about the people whose ID files are in the vault and those whose aren’t?
Subject: Clients are 7.0.2 and 8.5.1
I do understand that the 7 users will not be able to use the functionality of the vault, it is the fact that the vault does not contain these users at all that bothers me. What about the location of their mailfile? If it’s still on a 7 server will that hinder things?
Subject: Notes 7 clients cannot upload ID files to the vault.
Correct, to use a vault Lotus Notes clients must run Release 8.5 or later. If they are using Notes Release 7, they will not be able to upload their ID file from the Notes 7 client to the ID vault. Thus, you will not see ID files entries for these users in the ID vault (unless the ID file is put into the vault through the ID vault/iNotes integration feature.)
Are you expecting Notes 7 users to upload their ID file to the vault?
Are your users accessing Notes mail through iNotes? Have you enabled the ID vault/iNotes integration feature?
Subject: Ah so I AM an idiot
I think I see now. I’ll have to conduct some new testing but now it all makes sense.
Thank you very much!
