Great Idea - not convinced it’s the best implementation.
- While testing (or trying to test) it seems that you can wait for hours for Polices to be pushed back to the client - no matter how many times you restart your client and delete the DYNINFOCR line from Notes.ini.
Didn’t seem to take so long under 6.5.5 - i’ve waited over 4 hours (actually the update occurred sometime overnight or the next day) for settings to get pushed back to test clients under 8.5.1.
-
Any time you contact support about an issue related to Policies, they want you to recreate the Policy, which seems to end up changing settings (back to the default) for all your users.
-
Even updating an existing Policy seems to push out unrelated settings to multiple - if not all - users.
-
Basically - it seems to be unpredictable when your users will start calling wondering why all their settings changed.
Make for a lot of frustrated users, Admins, and lots of Helpdesk phone calls.
- Oh, and User’s can change their assigned Policy in the NAB.
One thing I’d really like to see - It’d be great if more options (like Mail Settings) were available in a ‘Setup’ policy - designed so they can be pushed out once - but wouldn’t continuously overwrite user’s preferences anytime the Policy doc was saved.
Or, if that’s not possible or practical - for desktop/mail/etc settings that are created as ‘Set Initial Value’ to not overwrite a users settings if they’ve already changed them.
