Planning a migration from exchange to Domino7

Greetings, I need to purpose a migration project for a project manager at my enterprise so I need to gather all the information I could manage about server solutions, migration tools, migration states, client infrastructure and some more important data. The project itself is described as a migration of more or less 250 users from exchange server 2003 environment to Domino 7, so I have one or two questions not for mention a thousand!!!

-Have anyone migrated with success between the two systems above (since it has not been commented by anyone at Microsoft, as far as I no)?

-What type of server (specs and even model) you consider to be the one that fits to this type of project?

Best regards to all.

Your questions are extremely vague so it’s going to be difficult for anyone to give specific answers. Yes, people have successfully migrated from Exchange to Domino and of course Microsoft wouldn’t tell you that. Domino has migration tools built in that take care of a lot of it for you and there are also companies that provide the end-to-end service.

As for server specs and models, there are a lot of variables. You said approximately 250 users, but how many active at one time? Are any going to be doing replication? What about web access? Is this mail only or will you be running other applications? Are you planning to do clustering? How much total mail? What OS are you deploying Domino on (you have choices)? Do you currently have or are you planning to implement a SAN? What is your backup solution?

Once you answer those questions you can start narrowing down specific models, but you will also need to find out what your corporate standard is.

I hope you can see that it’s not as easy as buy a box, install Domino, and away it goes. This is going to take significant planning and careful attention to detail.

Charles

Pedro,

If you are interested I used the exact tool you need for a migration two months ago. It worked like a charm. Please contact me if you would like some more information.
