I have a list of around 1000 servers along with their IP addresses.
Now, I need an scheduled agent to get the status of all these servers whether they are up or not and make a daily report out of this may be in the notepad or Ms Excel.

I would probably just code most of it in a batch file (.cmd or .bat) and shell out to it via lotuscript. Your batch file can also generate (echo) the report for you as well.

www.nagios.org is an open source System management app that runs on linux/unix. It will monitor your systems real time and give you web reporting. it also has API’s you can use to garnish the data into other apps.
This may be more than your looking for, but it might mean you can direct folks to this app instead of writing your own.
