I have migrated and upgrade Domino 6.5.5 to 7.0.2. Memory is 3.50 Gb. Now i m facing the problem, the memory is going too high (1,303,492 and sometime more than this) while running the domino server and after this an application error dialog box appears and server stop to work. Anyone is having idea how can we enhance the performance tunning so that we could avoid such types of incidents in future?
Subject: Performance Problem
Hi Muhammad,
Domino 7 works differently with its memory management to earlier releases.
We’ve migrated to 7.0.2 on x64 (Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition) and found memory problems are giving us some very bad performance issues. No matter how much RAM we throw at the server 8Gb-16Gb we still see up to 100% physical RAM utilisation then intense paging.
It’s not just Domino that is impacted it’s also the Windows OS that slows right down, sometimes it takes over 20 minutes to log into the OS from the server console.
We raised a PMR with IBM, after a few weeks of gathering data they found that Domino was performing as expected. None of the Domino performance tuning parameters recommended made any noticable change in server behaviour.
An MS analysis tool may have uncovered a memory leak on the server but we don’t know what process is causing this without further analysis. MS are looking into this for us now.
We haven’t experienced any crash as you mentioned.
It might be worth looking at the new memory utilisation options such as MEM_AddressableMemSize and ConstrainedSHM as outlined in the 702 release notes. Also NSF_Buffer_Pool_Size_MB. On the whole domino by itself does a pretty good job of self tuning taking into account OS type and RAM size.
P.76 of the “Domino 7 Performance Tuning: Best Practices Guide…” is a great start → http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/redp4182.html?Open
It is normal to see Domino on Wintel architecture use up to 1.3Gb (private heap + shared memory) where shared memory might by up to 1Gb.
I hope that helps.

Scott,
I am seeing the same thing you mentioned and was wondering if you had any luck with this memory leak?
Thanks
Subject: Performance Problem (Resolution!!!)
OK, I feel for you all. I’ve been dealing with this one since November 2006 and finally I have the fix. People this one worked on all 5 of my servers!
I added the following line to the Notes.ini file and rebooted.
Server_Pool_Tasks=60
NSF_DBcache_maxentries=4100
ConstrainedSHMSizeMB=4095
I think the biggest one is the ConstrainedSHMSizeMB. Scott was on it with his comments prior to this response. The number that goes in the ConstrainedSHMSizeMB cannot be larger then the amount of RAM on your server. Also see a new document posted called Notes/Domino Best Practices: Performance page 5. It was just posted on 3/10/2007 so don’t confuse it with the one that Scott mentioned. Good luck to all.

We are experiencing and now beginning to troubleshoot the exact same symptoms. We see mem usg spikes to 100% on a regular basis tey processor never goes above 2%. There is almost no load on this machine at this point. I can only imagine what will happen if we move it to full production

Hi Muhammad
I was wondering if you have had any success with your problem?
Cheers,
