PDF maker in Notes 8.5.1

In Lotus 6.5 users were able to hit a button and the mail was printed/saved as a PDF file.In Lotus 8.5.1 this functionality was missing.

Until I found a manual from Acrobat which explained how to make it functional again.

The only problem is that I followed the manual, but I still dont get a button in Lotus. All path’s are correct as told in the manual.

Any suggestions?

(file → print → pdf is not a suggestion, we have button people here)

Subject: PDF maker for Notes

A colleague of mine told me he had successfully installed Adobe Acrobat in Notes 8 (not sure if it was 8.5) as a clean install.

You may also consider a Notes-specific tool such as our PDF Converter. It doesn’t require any DLL files (or a printer driver) to be installed. Users get a PDF toolbar icon. It is delivered through an email, and no client installation is required. As an administrator, you can centrally manage conversion settings through configuration documents. Or, you can use the LotusScript API if needed.

IMHO, a Lotus-specific solution can provide a number of advantages over general-purpose converters. For instance, server-based conversion, smart resizing of tables and images, conversion of embedded views and other design elements, to name a few.

It also allows you to export multiple emails and attachments as PDF packages. Here is a screencast demo:

Subject: any one?

I have installed a clean version of Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, but it will still not work.The program you mentioned is for sale, not free to use.

If it worked in Notes 6.5.1/6.5.6 then why wont it be functional in 8.5.1? Buying a PDF writer is not an option for me.

Did anyone else tried the manual discribed above? I’m very curious if it works for anyone else. Maybe it just dont work for me.

Subject: I’d to update to Acrobat 9.1…

Tried to get the same functionality once with 8.5 and Acrobat 9.Although I’ve done everything as documented by Adobe, I did not work.

Found a technote that Acrobat 9.1 is needed, upgraded to 9.1 and it worked.

Here’s how I’ve done it:

Lotus Notes 8.5 is supported since Adobe Acrobat 9, but it actually works only since 9.1.0.

Adobe Acrobat 7 has no Lotus Notes plugin, Adobe Acrobat 8 is supporting only Lotus Notes 5 - 7.

So, if any user wants to create PDFs out of Notes documents using PDFMaker, Adobe Acobat 9.1 or higher must be installed on the machine AFTER Lotus Notes 8.5 has been installed.

The following modifications are done to the Lotus Notes 8.5 installation:

Added files to C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes:

AdobePDFMToolbarInst.dll

ndbPDFML.dll

Added notes.ini entries:

AddInMenus=C:\PROGRA~1\Adobe\ACROBA~1.0\PDFMaker\Mail\LOTUSN~1\PDFMLO~1.DLL

AdobePDFMInst=1

EXTMGR_ADDINS=AdobePDFMToolbarInst

As soon as Lotus Notes 8.5 is started, only the entry:

AddInMenus=C:\PROGRA~1\Adobe\ACROBA~1.0\PDFMaker\Mail\LOTUSN~1\PDFMLO~1.DLL

is remaining in the notes.ini.

An additional toolbar is installed:

These icons can be used to create PDFs out of Notes documents:
