Overriding CSS text properties in client?

I have a css class setup for tables. In the class, I set the text size, color etc.

How can I override this for a specific set of characters? For example, I have a sentence in a cell that I want to be red but the text is displayed as black because that is what is in the CSS for the table.

Try using a different rule for the specific cell(s), e.g. td.class {rule}.

I tried using a different class for the cell (a non existant) one. That did not work.

What I ended up doing was moving the text settings into the cell class rather than the table. This is still not an ideal solution.

You would think that if Lotus was going to implement css in the client then they would implment it. Not some have baked version.

I’m not sure I understand your comments. What does “…using a different class for the cell (a non existant) one.” mean?

What you ended up doing, applying the css text settings to the cell, is exactly what you should do. Table cells inherit certain css properties from the table css properties, color being one of them. So if your table is set to use blue text, the table cells will use blue text also. If you want all your table cells to use red instead, you need to override the table rule. If you want only certain cells to be red, you need to use class or id attribute to override the table rule for just those cells.

Some examples:

/* all cells will inherit this setting and be blue */

table {color: blue}

/* all cells will override the table setting and be red */

table {color: blue}

td {color: red}

/* only cells with “red” class attribute will override the table setting and be red. All other cells will still be blue */

table {color: blue}

td.red {color: red}

This is consistent with the w3 CSS spec. Notes does not, and does not claim to, fully support the w3 CSS spec. But what it does support, as described in the documentation, is consistent with the w3 CSS spec.

Maybe I misunderstand what you had to do to get it to work, but what I described above is how it should work and works correctly for me. If you’re still having trouble getting this to work, post your email address and I’ll send you a sample database if you’d like.

I meant that I added a class name to the cell properties that does not exist in my css file.

What I want to do is this:

Set a default font and text color for the whole table.

In a particluar cell, I want to use this font and color (black) for all of the characters in that cell except one word in the text. I want to make that word red.

I see. You’re correct - there isn’t a way to apply css to a subset of a paragraph like you want.
