Outgoing mail problem

I have a problem with outgoing mail not being transferred to mail.box on the server for three users. The messages are shown in the users Sent folder in their mail file, but the message never gets to the mail.box on the server and is therefore not sent out. These are all users that have been on the system for a number of years. If I change the users name using Rename in the Administrator client, then the mail works temporarily even after all the Admin Requests have been processed until some time later when it stops working. I cannot find any other Admin Request or events in any logs that would indicate why it should suddenly stop working.

Any ideas?

Check your users have correct internet address set in their location documents as it may just be a mail relay issue.

Check your logs for errors. It may give you additional help

Thanks for the responses so far.I have already checked the location document for the usual mail file, internet address etc. but one thing that may be of interest is that the users are able to forward mail even when they cannot Send a memo. My past experience of this is that whenever a user cannot forward mail to check the location document first. I have also tried the mail.box and smtp.box on the local client and have even tried setting the location to Home to test whether a mail in the Local mail.box would be transferred when replicated - it wasn’t. Also, I cannot find any error messages in any Log files either on the client or the Server. Then this afternoon one of the users reported that their mail was being delivered after not working for 3 hours. Again I couldn’t find any events or Admin requests processed that may account for this.

In their location doc, check that their mail file location is set to “On server”. Also see if there is a local mail.box or smtp.box that their mails are going to.

Check their local log file as well and see if that tells you anything.

Thanks,

Em.

have one of the users create a mail message and send it. At the same time watch the server console for any error messages. It’s possible the users do not have access to mail.box. They should, however, have Depositor access by default. Just a thought. What led me here was what you explained about renaming the users.
