Subject: Backups using ArcServe
Hi,
We are using ArcServe 11.1 and we are using the Lotus Notes agent (which incidently is more expensive than the base product).
I’ve previously used ArcServe 2000 (and earlier versions) without the Notes agent and never ever had a problem restoring a notes file.
My only problem was that if the Backup was still running in the daytime when people were accessing their mail etc. They could sometimes get locked out temporarily - but then, we don’t run backups during the day normally anyway.
The only difference I’ve found with the Lotus Notes agent is that it records the names of the databases, instead of their file names, and that you need to tell it to exclude .NSF files when you select the notes server, or it will back them up twice.
I can’t tell you which is the better solution, but I can tell you that the CA support team were very helpful when there were Win2003 SP2 issues (apparently vertias also had these issues).
Regards.
