I have an opportunity to submit a design proposal for a time-off tracking database, with approval/denial routing, waitlist functionality, and availabilty of allowable vacation time editable by day. There are a number of very good Lotus Notes/Domino databases available for customization in the Sandbox, and in OpenNTF.
My question - to all you who have created or currently support such an application - is this: If you had it to do over again, today, would you build in Lotus Notes/Domino Designer, or would you use another product, such as Lotus Workflow? IBM Workplace?
I have read the literature for Lotus Notes for SAP Access and the vacation/leave workflow built in, which looks ideal, but unfortunately I am stuck with version 6.5.1 for the foreseeable future.

Thank you - I’ve read posts by developers who maintain customized vacation tracking databases, and nobody seems to have anything negative to comment about, which I found encouraging.

I haven’t personally tried those off-time management apps from openntf and others, as there has been no need yet. But if I’d happen to get a task to make such an application I would first look at those existing templates, and then quickly decide if they are suitable and quickly customable to the required needs, or if I should start from scratch, either way it’s no waste of time using Domino.
