Hi, we will plan to migrate Lotus Notes to MS Exchange (Outlook), we have many Lotus Notes applications (Notes client and web), of course many of them are using Lotus Notes email functionality. I want to know what is the impact for this migration? What kinds of design in my Notes applications need to be considered to modify? Welcome some resources, documentations if there is any. thanks a lot.
Subject: Notes to Exchange migration - suggestions required
Leave your apps alone; you typically don’t need to modify them based on the mail system.Configure Domino to send email out to Exchange (Foreign SMTP domain)
Add a forwarding address to the user’s Notes address entry that is their new Exchange/Outlook mail.
New users don’t need a Notes mail db and old users can keep their mail dbs but no longer use them.
I believe MS has tools for moving mail messages out of Notes into Exchange/Outlook which may be important. Talk to them about the tool.
Mail will then route to Exchange without much issue. Doclinks tend to keep working. If you have issues, you may need to use something like Coex!Links from GeniiSoft if native translations fail.
It’s not a huge deal. Proviso - we have no mail-in db apps. If you do, then somehow you need to configure Exchange to send mail into your Domino environment.
I’d recommend buying consulting time for this project; it’s very helpful to have someone available to help you make the setting changes so mail routes correctly.
We’ve been running this way for several years; the apps work fine, my design process hasn’t changed, and we haven’t moved any apps into MS/SharePoint Land.
